YORKTON, Sask. – As PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada’s regular 2024 season concluded Saturday night in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) showed up and showed out, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the Touring Pro Division event to win the Mazergroup PBR and reclaim the No. 1 rank in the race for the national title.

Coverchuk travelled to Westland Arena at Gallagher Centre 20.25 points behind then No. 1 Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta). His flawless effort in his home province, which included consecutive round wins in Round 1-2, garnered him a crucial 87.5 national point, catapulting him back to the No. 1 rank in the race for the 2024 PBR Canada Championship and accompanying $100,000 bonus, now 21.75 points ahead of No. 2 Tetz.

Chasing history, should two-time title holder Coverchuk remain atop the standings when the season ends Nov. 9 in Edmonton, Alberta, he would tie Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) for most PBR Canada Championships won by one rider with three.

Coverchuk got off to a fast start in Round 1, surging to the event lead when he rode Red Rust (Vold Rodeo) for 85.5 points. The reserved Saskatchewan man then solidified his spot atop the leaderboard, delivering the high-marked ride of the event when he covered Slash Tide (Vold Rodeo) for an unrivaled 88 points in Round 2.

On Championship Saturday, Coverchuk remained red-hot, clinching the win courtesy of an 82-point ride on Ugly Truth (CS Bucking Bulls) in Round 3 and 84-point effort aboard Sons of Junkie (Lazy S Bucking Bulls) in Round 4.

Coverchuck concluded the regular season having gone a torrid 33-for-57, covering 57.89% of his animal athlete opponents. Additionally, he won 8 events and 15 rounds across both the Cup Series and Touring Pro Division.

Tetz prevented Coverchuk by gaining further ground by going 3-for-4 in Yorkton, finishing third and earning 45.5 national points.

For 2022 PBR Canada Champion Tetz, he is chasing history of his own, attempting to become just the fifth multi-time PBR Canada Champion in history, joining the likes of Roy, Coverchuk, Zane Lambert (Ponoka, Alberta) and Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan).

Tetz, who rides for the Arizona Ridge Riders in the separate PBR Teams league, covered Crucial Talent (Flying Four Bucking Bulls) for 80.5 points in Round 1, the fifth-best score, and Special Ops (Vold Rodeo/R Saga Ranch) for 86 points in Round 2, the second-best score, before stumbling in Round 3, bucked off by Evil Magic (Flying Four Bucking Bulls) in a close 6.34 seconds.

The Calgary-native, however, concluded the event in successful form, making the 8 on Wide Open (Lazy S Bucking Bulls) for 84 points in Round 4.

Tetz had a record 2024 regular season campaign. In addition to obliterating the season win record, victorious at 11 Cup Series and Touring Pro Division events, he won an unmatched 16 rounds across both levels of competition, going an impressive 30-for-57, besting 52.63% of his animal athlete opponents.

Returning to the top of the event leaderboard, Eric O’Flynn (Quesnell, British Columbia) was second, earning 58.5 national points as the only other competitor to go a perfect 4-for-4.

Flynn’s scores were earned aboard Sons of Junkie for 84 points on Round 1, Torch It Up (Vold Rodeo/Jake Wilson) for 74 points in Round 2, Lil’ Vic (Rafter 8 Bulls) for 80.5 points in Round 3 and Edge of Tomorrow (Lazy S Bucking Bulls) for 81.5 points in Round 4.

Ranked No. 46 prior to the event, O’Flynn surged to No. 29.

Griffin Koester (Rockyford, Alberta) went 3-for-3 to finish fourth and earn 23 national points.

After riding Ray Finkle (Flying Four Bucking Bulls) for 83 points in Round 1, Koester bested Effective (Vold Rodeo/R Saga Ranch) for 76.5 points in Round 2, and Bandicoot (Flying Four Bucking Bulls) for 76 points in Round 3.

Koester rose three positions in the national standings, rising from No. 34 to No. 31.

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Cody Fraser (Wilmington, South Australia, Australia).

Fraser earned 29 points for his 79.5-point ride on Ramrod (CJ Bucking Bulls) in Round 1, and Round 3-winning, 84-point ride on Mad Hatter (CS Bucking Bulls).

Earning 29 national points, Fraser remained No. 21 in Canada.

In the bull pen, Jam It (Vold Rodeo) and Slash Tide (Vold Rodeo) tied for the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event honor, bothin delivering unmatched 43-point bull scores. Jam It earned the score for his 2.25-second buckoff of Zane Tully (Consul, Saskatchewan), while Slash Tide put up the points when he teamed with Coverchuk for the event-best, 88-point ride in Round 2.

The 2024 PBR Canada season will conclude in Edmonton, Alberta for the Command Tubular PBR Canada National Finals, presented by Edmonton’s Best Hotels, when the 2024 PBR Canada Champion will be crowned, earning the accompanying $100,000 bonus.
