NORTH BATTLEFORD, Sask. – Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) continued to ride red hot Thursday evening in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, delivering a perfect 2-for-2 performance to win the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Touring Pro Division’s McDonald’s Cold Cave Memorial PBR Classic.

The win is Tetz’ eighth of the 2024 season, and sixth since late June. The Calgary native has gone a torrid 20-for-36 (55.56%) thus far his season, five of his last six bovine athlete opponents.

As competition got underway in Round 1, Tetz jumped to an early event lead when he bested Poundmaker (Skori Bucking Bulls) for 84 points.

The reserved Albertan then took on Tailor Made (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) in Round 2. Nodding with confidence, Tetz reached the requisite 8 with ease, marked an event-best 87 points to clinch the victory.

Compliments of the golden finish, Tetz earned a crucial 62 national points, allowing him to close within 61 national points of No. 1 Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan).

Should 2022 PBR Canada Champion Tetz continue his upward climb and win the 2024 title, he would become just the fourth rider in history to win the national championship multiple times.

Coverchuk stumbled in North Battleford, going 0-for-2. After Get Ugly (CS Bucking Bulls) tossed him in a close 7.5 seconds in Round 1, Diggin Up Bones (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) bucked off Coverchuk in 2.5 seconds in Round 2.

Returning to the top of the event leaderboard, three-time PBR Canada Champion Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) was second, garnering 45.5 national points.

Roy rode Big Black (CS Bucking Bulls) for 80 points in Round 1, before going the distance atop Ain’t About Fame (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) for 85 points in Round 2.

The veteran rider, who is on the hunt for his unprecedented fourth national title this November, rose from No. 10 to No. 7 in the Canadian standings. He is now within 618.5 points of No. 1 Coverchuk.

As the only other rider to cover both of his bulls in North Battleford, Coy Robbins (Camrose, Alberta) was third.

Robbins’ 76.5-point ride on Black Jack (Skori Bucking Bulls) and 82.5-point ride on Sippin Bravo (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) netted him 24 national points.

The 2017 PBR Canada Rookie of the Year remained No. 16 in Canada. He now trails the top spot by 772 points.

Chanse Switzer (Hazenmore, Saskatchewan) parlayed an 82-point ride on Barely Holdin On (CS Bucking Bulls) into a fourth-place finish.

Earning 18 national points, Switzer solidified his No. 5 rank, pulling within 586.67 points of No. 1 Coverchuk.

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Gilmar Santana (Ouro Preta, Brazil).

The surging Brazilian covered Iodine (CS Bucking Bulls) for 80 points, colleting 17.5 points in the race for the 2024 PBR Canada Championship and accompanying $100,000 bonus.

Santana remained No. 12 in the standings.

In the bull pen, Relatively Famous (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) bucked supreme, crowned the Bull of the Event. Bucking in Round 2, the powerful animal athlete was marked an unrivaled 43 points for his 2.19 seconds of work against Wade Marshall (Invercargill, New Zealand).

The 2024 PBR Canada season continues Saturday, July 27 with the Touring Pro Division’s Lacombe Pro Bull Riding in Lacombe, Alberta. Action at the Lacombe & District Agriculture Society Grounds begins at 7:00 p.m. MT.
